5 Sussex Landmarks That Totally Look Like They’re From a Harry Potter Movie

Harry Potter in Sussex

๐Ÿ”ฎ Grab Your Wands, Sussex! We’re Going on a Magical Tour! ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Alright, Potterheads, let’s get real. We’ve all dreamt of getting that Hogwarts letter (still waiting for mine, by the way ๐Ÿ™„). But what if I told you that you don’t need to hop on the Hogwarts Express to experience the magic? That’s right! Sussex is low-key the Harry Potter set J.K. Rowling never told us about. So, dust off your robes, grab that Nimbus 2000, and let’s uncover the spellbinding spots of Sussex that are straight outta Hogwarts!

#1 Lancing College: The Real-Life Hogwarts

๐Ÿฐ Welcome to Lancing College: Where Every Day is a Magical School Day! ๐Ÿฐ

First stop on our magical mystery tour? Lancing College. With its towering spires, gothic architecture, and an aura that screams “magic happens here”, it’s basically Hogwarts minus the moving staircases (though we’re still holding out hope for those).

Lancing College Hogwarts

History 101 (But Make It Fun): Lancing College has been around since the 19th century, making it almost as old as Nicholas Flamel. Okay, not really, but it’s got that ancient magical vibe down to a tee.

Hogwarts Vibes: Picture this: Walking through the grand halls, expecting Nearly Headless Nick to pop up any second or maybe sneaking into the library, hoping to find the Half-Blood Prince’s potions book. And let’s not even get started on the views from the top โ€“ it’s like the Astronomy Tower without the, you know, tragic Dumbledore moments.

Extra Magical Touch: The chapel! With its stunning stained glass and echoing acoustics, it’s the perfect spot for practicing your choir renditions of “Double, double, toil and trouble.”

#2 The Lanes in Brighton: Diagon Alley’s Twin

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Shopping for a New Wand? The Lanes Have You Covered! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Brighton’s Lanes are more than just a shopper’s paradise; they’re a wizard’s dream! With winding alleyways and quirky shops that look like they’ve been plucked straight out of a magical realm, it’s easy to imagine you’re on a quest for some Floo Powder or a fresh Nimbus.

Shop ’til You Drop (or Apparate): From vintage boutiques that could easily pass for Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions to cafes that give the Leaky Cauldron a run for its Galleons, The Lanes are a magical mishmash of the old and new.

Secret Passageways: Okay, maybe not actual secret passageways, but with all the twists and turns, who’s to say there isn’t a hidden entrance to the Ministry of Magic around here? ๐Ÿคซ

Nightlife Magic: As the sun sets, The Lanes transform. Lumos-lit pubs and bars come alive, and if you listen closely, you might just hear the faint sounds of a wizarding duel… or maybe that’s just karaoke night.

#3 Seven Sisters Cliffs: The Quidditch Training Grounds

๐Ÿงน Broomsticks at the Ready! Time for Some Aerial Acrobatics! ๐Ÿงน

Forget the Quidditch World Cup; the Seven Sisters Cliffs are where the real action’s at! With breathtaking views and gusty winds, it’s the perfect spot for a game of Catch-the-Golden-Snitch.

Let’s just hope no Dementors turn up

Natural Quidditch Pitches: The vast open spaces atop the cliffs? Ideal for a Quidditch match. Just watch out for those Bludgers… and maybe the occasional seagull.

Seeker’s Paradise: With the vast expanse of the sea and the dizzying heights, it’s a Seeker’s dream. Spotting the Golden Snitch (or maybe just a shiny wrapper) becomes a thrilling challenge.

Magical Picnics: After an exhausting match, settle down for a magical picnic. Whip out your sandwiches (hopefully not made by Kreacher) and enjoy the view. Just be wary of any mischievous Nifflers eyeing your shiny stuff!

AND DID YOU KNOW? this was actually used as a location in the Goblet of Fire. It’s on the hills around Beachy Head that Harry and the Weasleys arrive at the Quidditch World Cup!!

#4 Alfriston: Sussex’s Answer to Hogsmeade

๐Ÿบ Where’s My Butterbeer? Dive into Alfriston’s Magical Nooks and Crannies! ๐Ÿบ

Tucked away amidst the rolling landscapes of Sussex, Alfriston is the kind of village where magic feels not just possible, but probable. With its timber-framed buildings and winding streets, it’s easy to imagine wizards and witches going about their daily business.

If Alfriston was Hogsmeade

Historic Charm: Alfriston’s medieval roots give it an enchanting aura. As you stroll through the village, you can almost hear the distant chatter of wizards discussing the latest magical news.

Pubs and Potions: While The Star Inn might not serve Butterbeer or Firewhisky (as far as we know!), its historic charm and cozy ambiance make it the perfect spot for wizards and Muggles alike.

Magical Market: The village’s quaint shops and boutiques are reminiscent of Hogsmeade’s magical stores. Whether you’re in the market for a new wand or just some magical trinkets, Alfriston’s got you covered.

Riverbank Revelry: The Cuckmere River flowing by adds to the village’s enchantment. Who needs the Black Lake when you’ve got these serene waters, perfect for a magical boat ride (or a mischievous Mermaid encounter)?

#5 Ashdown Forest: The Forbidden Forest’s Cousin

๐ŸŒฒ Enter If You Dare: Magic, Mysteries, and Maybe a Centaur or Two! ๐ŸŒฒ

Ashdown Forest is vast, wild, and oh-so-magical. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine magical creatures lurking behind every tree and shadows holding secrets of the wizarding world.

Luckily Ashdown Forest looks much friendlier than this…normally

A Forest Full of Secrets: From ancient groves to hidden clearings, every nook of Ashdown Forest feels like a page out of a magical storybook.

Creature Spotting: While we can’t guarantee a Thestral or a Blast-Ended Skrewt sighting, keep your eyes peeled for magical creatures. And if you hear a rustling, maybe, just maybe, it’s a Bowtruckle!

Camping with Magic: Fancy a night under the stars? Set up camp, light a fire (with a non-verbal spell, of course), and share tales of magic and wonder. Just remember to set up some protective enchantments; you never know what’s out there!

While our Sussex spots are magical, remember to respect the landmarks, the local communities, and the environment. Let’s keep the magic alive for generations of Potterheads to come!
